Biography

1931 Born in Bourgas, Bulgaria

1954 Graduated from Institute of Architecture – Sofia, Bulgaria

1955–59 Works as an architect in a Designer´s bureau – Bourgas, Bulgaria

1959–66 Finished the faculty of mural painting at Academy of Fine Arts – Sofia, Bulgaria

1966–67 Specializes in Paris, France in George Patrix´s atelier

1969 Becomes professor of mural painting at Academy of Fine Arts – Sofia, Bulgaria

1970 One month artistic trip in Finland

1985 Participation in a monumental and mosaists symposium “Senege” – Moscow, Russia

1987 Solo mosaics exhibition – Sofia, Bulgaria

National prize for decorative arts “Ivan Penkov”

One man exhibition “Mosaics and plastics” – Sofia, Bulgaria

1989 Membership in the International Association of Contemporary mosaicists (AIMC) – Ravenna, Italy

1990 Full professor at the National Academy of Fine Arts – Sofia, Bulgaria

Since 1967 until now Prof. Ilia Iliev has been participating in all national exhibitions of applied arts as well as at the Department of Mural painting.

A total of over 80 of his works are realized in architectural space. A considerable part of his easel works is in National Galleries and private collections in Bulgaria and USA, France, Netherlands, Japan, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Macedonia, Serbia, etc.
